FMP: Gender

As part of my current course Design Crafts: I am working on my Final Major Project (FMP) This means that I have to choose my own theme and write my own assignment brief. I decided to base it around 'Gender' as I thought it would be a great topic because it has a lot of ideas surrounding it. Textiles is definitely my  focus throughout this project as that is what I will be moving on to do at University. I have included some images of my first couple of pages on this blog. My first page shows the meaning of the word 'Gender', the second a spider diagram of ideas I would like to research and thirdly a mood board with pictures that will inspire my project. I have started my sketchbook with some general drawings relating to girls stereotyped toys, along with some photocopies of girls magazines, books and toys to demonstrate what young girls are normally associated with. This isn't always the case, just the general stereotype. I will follow on from this with textile inspired tests, artist links and then move onto different ideas within the word Gender. This will include Boy stereotypes, Gender Neutral childhoods etc.
